Define success

Success to me is really more of a state of mind rather than what someone is. If you are happy with who you are and what you have accomplished then you have become successful. People believe that money is the root to all success but in reality it is completely opposite. Money cannot buy your happiness. I have been told all my life that becoming a lawyer or a doctor will make me successful and comfortable in life, yet I would not be happy with becoming that person. I really would like to be comfortable in life but I do not want to go through life doing something I cannot enjoy. I believe that you become successful when you except the person you are.

I like the fact that you believe that success is a "state of mind rather than what someone is"

But that statement is very contradicting.
If you were Watching T.V and saw Michael Phelps achieving another record, then more than likely this one thought would come to mind "wow.. he is really successful"

So if you're coming from your own personal perspective then yes, you could look at as a state of mind, but do you really need state of mind to know that you've succeeded in something?

And as to your theory on "Money cannot buy happiness" well...in a way it can.

Let's say you want to succeed in being a teacher, electrician, C.E.O of a business and that is what makes you happy. That education in technical school or a college isn't going to pay for itself. So in most cases money can buy happiness but I will quote The Beatles.

"Can't buy me love, everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love, no no no, no"

But you are right on one thing in particular.

"If you are happy with who you are and what you have accomplished then you have become successful."

Wow, I really like your statements. You are right that sometimes young people are encouraged to pursue careers that will make them "successful." But if you're not happy doing that job, career, whatever, then how successful can you be? Good job. Very thoughtful.
